Are you targeting for Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 8 Programmer certification? This post provides one of many ways to prepare for the Java SE 8 Programmer II Exam. Please note that I am an experienced Java programmer but who has SCJP 1.4 certification. The contents herein may not be enough (or too much) for people who are starting to learn Java.
It took me a year to review – on and off – because of hectic work schedules.
Books to Use
OCP: Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 8 Programmer II Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-809
This book is by Jeanne Boyarsky and Scott Selikoff. It is a good enough reference but do not solely rely on it. It has some noticeable errata.
The practice exams are difficult enough
but not difficult. If you have the time, I’d suggest reading the whole book at least thrice and try to get perfect scores on practice exams.
However, reading books is a slow process. There is a faster
better alternative – video tutorials.
There are a few videos from Udemy but I did not purchase any of them. I purchased one from Whizlabs.com. I would say it is good enough for me. It saves me time. The questions are simple to facilitate easy learning or recall. I feel satisfied with the video tutorial.
I bought a mock exam from Whizlabs.com. The questions are tougher than those from Boyarsky/Selikoff’s book.
How to Study
The key is understanding the concepts and practicing them along the way. Memorizing things is not enough (but important). Read or watch the materials several times. Take all the quizzes and mock exams.
You need to know that the exam is difficult as there are more stuff to test your knowledge against.
Time Zone Calculation
You also need to understand how time zones work. The following video demonstrates how to time zone calculation is done.
