Configure IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus WebGUI 7.3.1 To Connect To A Local Object Server

Ideally, WebGUI connects to remote object servers.  It is the case for production configurations. Test environments may follow the same set up or have both WebGUI and object server run in the same physical machine. They can even deploy them in virtual machines which could serve as ready-to-use baselines and to be distributed within the team for rapidly testing testfixes, testfix bundles, or even fixpacks. New baselines may also be  derived from existing baselines, i.e., upgrade a copy of WebGUI7.3.1GA VM to WebGUI7.3.1FP1.

Software Environment

  • Windows 7 Professional SP1
  • Java 1.7 (1.7.0_67 – Windows x86)
  • IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus WebGUI 7.3.1

Configure It

Reconfiguring a WebGUI 7.3.1 to connect to a local object server requires changing some files and invoke a few commands or actions.

1. Shutdown the WebGUI server

2. Modify objectserver.properties to use the local host and object server name

3. Modify ncwDataSourceDefinitions.xml to use the local host, object server name, and object server user credential which WebGUI will use to connect to the object server.

4. Invoke the confvmm4ncos.sh file to update the content of wimconfig.xml file

a. Ensure the object server is running when invoking this file.

b. Ensure a database already exists in the object server.

b. Provide the host name,  “localhost”, or IP address.  Either the first two is preferable because of VM’s changing IP address specially when you start out from a fresh copy of a baseline.

5. Restart the WebGUI server
